The Victorian Points Test (VPT), in full
Victoria scores every Registration of Interest out of 950 across seven factors, then invites from the highest down. These are the published tables, transcribed in full.
There is no pass mark. Unlike the federal SkillSelect test, which has a fixed 65-point minimum, Victoria publishes no number you have to reach. It ranks every ROI from highest to lowest and invites from the top in each round. Your score only means something relative to everyone else’s.
Age — up to 300 points
The largest single factor, and the one nobody can change. The drop is steep after 40: roughly 30 points a year, against 14–16 a year through the thirties.

Occupation skill level — up to 50
Only ANZSCO skill level 1 occupations score here. Levels 2 and 3 score nothing, which caps those applicants at 900 rather than 950.
| Skill level | Points |
|---|---|
| Skill level 1 occupation | 50 |
| Skill level 2 occupation | 0 |
| Skill level 3 occupation | 0 |
Partner’s skill — up to 50
This is not the federal 10 partner points. Victoria has its own rule, and all three of these must be true to score 50:
- You claimed 10 points for Partner Skills on your SkillSelect EOI, and
- your partner will be included in your state-nominated visa application, and
- your partner’s occupation is a current priority industry occupation.
Single applicants, those with an Australian partner, and anyone not meeting all three score zero.
Annual earnings from skilled employment in Victoria — up to 150
This counts only current skilled employment in Victoria. Applying from offshore, or from another state, scores zero here — a structural 150-point gap that is rarely spelled out.

How invitations actually work
Submitting one ROI puts you in both selection streams at once. Most competitive invites the highest totals across all eligible occupations. Priority industry invites the highest totals within each priority industry or subgroup — which is why the group your occupation sits in matters as much as your score.
